One of my final year modules (Advanced Games Development) required me to develop a game as part of a team with designers, artists and animators. The main focus of the module was to develop skills in team working and was more of a “chilled” module compared to the other modules. The team I was in branded themselves as Spellbound Studios and consisted of 12 people; 4 programmers, 4 artists, 2 animators and 2 designers. We opted to use Unity to build our game, Other Worldly Wizardry.
There were quite a few challenges developing the game. I opted to design the grid system over the year as well as help out on a lot of other things. I’m happy with the current implementation of the grid although if I could, I would have liked to get rid of all the little bugs but towards the end of the project I found fixing other things that were more important. Working as a group was also a good experience, I found a few people didn’t seem to pull their weight and often found myself doing the work instead but I always enjoyed the extra work as it allowed me to face more challenges and get to learn Unity some more.
